r8 ur art!
“using technology to highlight public art”
r8 ur art is an exciting, original and truly unique event that will integrate art and technology in an innovative display highlighting the thoughts, views and indeed memories of the Dublin public regarding public art. Using such modern communication technology such as Bebo, MySpace and SMS text, these thoughts and views will be collected and displayed in audio-visual format and displayed in a gallery space for of three days. This display will be an interactive, ever-changing one, as the more responses received the more the exhibition receives new material. In addition to the collection and displaying of the publics thoughts and memories, there will also be looped video display highlighting public responses. This will be shown in the gallery on a number of monitors and projectors and will be updated regularly.
An extensive marketing and public relations campaign will highlight the different ways in which the public can engage with the project. These include a mobile phone number that people can send their opinions to in text or photographic form, as well as MySpace and Bebo pages, which will allow people to leave their thoughts and views. A benefit of using the online communication programs Bebo and MySpace is that a poll can be set up for the public to vote on their favourite/least favourite artworks, and these results will be shown in the gallery.
r8 ur art to encourage Dubliners to look anew at the art work in their city that the organisers feel has become invisible to many. Our team want the project to act as a catalyst for increased public debates surrounding new public art, while also encouraging an appraisal of the relevance of some of the older installations. The r8 ur art project will act as a platform where people can voice their opinions which they feel are not usually heard. This cultural event encourages people to engage with the public art by allowing them to comment in a way in which they feel more comfortable and familiar with.
We thank you for your time and we hope that you will consider our project with an open mind as to the potential benefits for all involved.
